Those symbols at the top left mean "silence"... it's just a little in-joke for the pseudo-Japanese community. I snatched it from the manga KareKano...

The middle panel may be a bit complicated to decipher, but you can follow Jack's path if you read traditional left-to-right and top-to bottom :-D You can even see a tiny Michelle at the far left, in the hallway. As for my page layouts, this is one of my personal favorites... it bends traditional comic book rules without breaking them (of course it's nothing like Chris Ware).
